TL; DR
There are times when it makes sense to join a group chat, but it can often be annoying. If someone in the group calls, everyone in the group is notified. However, WhatsApp introduces a change that should make it less annoying to be part of a group chat.
WhatsApp today announced that it introduces a handful of new calling features and improvements for desktop and mobile. The most interesting of these is undoubtedly the unveiling of a new group chat feature. Users can now select which members of the group chat they want to call. So if you don’t want to alert everyone in the group, you can choose exactly which of your friends you want to contact, without bothering the rest.
Next, the company will release new effects for video calls. Similar to Instagram filters, users can choose from effects such as puppy ears, underwater, a karaoke microphone and more. There are a total of ten new effects to choose from.
The last two updates coming our way are aimed at improving the calling experience. The company says it has increased the resolution for video calls and made them more reliable. This applies to both one-on-one conversations and group conversations. Meanwhile, everything you need to make a call, create a call link, or dial a number directly on the desktop is now clearly displayed in the Calls tab.
